Six-minute standing ovation for Bugonia at the Venice Film Festival and a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, received more than six minutes of applause at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. The Greek filmmaker and Emma Stone had traveled to the festival two years ago for the screening of Poor Things. Bugonia currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 12 reviews.

Written by Will Tracy, the story of Bugonia follows two young men obsessed with conspiracy theories who kidnap the CEO of a major corporation, convinced that she is an alien planning to destroy planet Earth. Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone, Edi Delbes, and Stavros Halkias also star in the film.

Variety reported that Bugonia contains shocking scenes between the hostage and the captors, prompting some viewers to cover their eyes with their hands. However, after the end credits rolled, the audience gave it six to eight minutes of applause.

The film is a remake of a Korean sci-fi comedy titled Save the Green Planet. Following Poor Things, The Favourite, and Kinds of Kindness, Emma Stone will be collaborating with Lanthimos for the fourth time in a feature film.

Bugonia is scheduled for release on October 24 (Aban 2, 1404).
